Why “Commitment” Matters
Commitment should be the name of this post—because that’s what this entry is really about: staying committed to the goals you set, even when life starts to pull you in every direction.
For me, I’ve noticed a pattern. I’ll come up with a solid idea, get excited about it, and start strong. But then I miss a day or mess up once… and it gets easier to keep falling short.
When I first committed to writing this blog daily—covering my vinyl collection, personal life, creative goals, and reflections—I was fired up. But I didn’t fully think about what happens when real life kicks in.
Some days you’re just plain tired. Some days you get hit with curveballs. And unless you’ve got backup content ready, it’s easy to let the momentum go.
I’m a construction worker by day, a DJ by night, and someone who’s helped throw events and create content for years. Honestly, this might be the least busy I’ve been in a long time—but I’ve still got a full plate.
I used to edit the Burn & Rave Podcast, DJ at Domo and other gigs, help lead Modesto Artist Movement events, juggle family life, and work on my long-term goals. I still do a lot of that, but I’ve pulled back this year to focus and re-prioritize.
Now, this blog is one of my main creative commitments.
Yesterday I woke up early, around 4:50 AM. Got in the shower, got ready for work. Drove to Citrus Heights. Came home. Exhausted. All I wanted was a shower, food, and bed. That was it.
And yeah—I missed posting a blog. That’s on me.
But I also know what I need to do next: start pre-writing posts and scheduling them out. Load the chamber with 5–6 entries so I’m never caught empty-handed. That’s the move.
Even though some of my goals are shifting, a few still stand tall:
Write daily blog posts.
Release Modesto Artist Movement Music Compilation Vol. 1 with a live event.
Sell cassettes to fund a vinyl pressing.
Work goals? A lot of those are on track. Now it’s about helping the team and staying consistent.
If you’ve been reading, commenting, or just quietly rooting me on—I appreciate you. When I miss a day, I feel it. I think about it. And I’m not going to be too hard on myself… but I know what I’ve got to do.
Anyways,
I’ll be spinning at Chicken Ranch Casino tonight from 11 PM to 2 AM.
Shout out to Izzy from 1012—appreciate you, brother. 🙏
